I can't believe I actually went to 'the game is on'

lots behind here about the Q&A and fandom friends

What a lovely bunch of people they are!  Rupert learnt a lot from being a clown, I really love the idea that 'clown wanted' can actually be found in a Job centre advert, making people laugh with him seemed to come naturally and not only when he was agreeing that Mystrade made perfect sense or talking about his reactions to Molly in the Christmas party scene, some how just the manner of the man was enough to raise a laugh and a few swoons as well ;-)

Mark Gatiss was the perfect host, he answered and asked things that really were on the edges of reasonable and that was before they opened it up to questions from the audience and it got slightly cringeworthy at times.

I have never seen Martin Freeman not in character and I'm not daft enough to think that the person who arrives at things like the Q&A is the 'real' Martin but it is made up of the parts of him he is willing to let us see and I think I quite like the man :-)  When asked about how the Hobbit would change his life his focus wasn't on the money or the fame or any of the personal things for himself his focus was entirely on making sure that things didn't change for his family in ways he was unhappy with.  We know he's a very private man when it comes to his family and he really seems determined to keep it that way and I certainly got the impression that the one things that could have him giving up his life and moving into a Hobbit hole in a field far far away for real was the loss of privacy for his kids.

He, most vocally, but with the support of the other men there also addressed the issue of the great lie men tell the world and we women believe, you know the one, its the one that tells us that men look better with age and are just as sexy at 50 as they are at 20 while women just get old.  Personally I think men and women remain beautiful and sexy at all ages but as a society they're right we treat men and women differently as they get older and it's not just a female issue so it was nice to see it discussed by men and women.

Louise Brealey is the most wonderful and funny woman, she answered questions, made people laugh and said things completely innocently that were far funnier than she intended and she dealt with the laughs from the audience brilliantly  Working with Louise and Rupert looks like it would be the most amazing fun but I'm sure they are very professional on set ;-)

The insight into the thoughts and processes behind Sherlock that came from Sue and Steven were really interesting and only served to increase the feeling that these are all people doing the best fan fiction job in the world, they love the characters and they love the show and that is one of the main reasons they do such a brilliant job

Questions from the audience got just a bit creepy at times, come on who really needed to ask about red pants??? but most of the questions were sensible and one thing that I was really impressed by was that they answered them, even the elementary questions (who does that?) was answered in the best way they could having all chosen not to watch it (that was the answer)

Before the Q&A Sherlock Fandom took over quite a lot of wagamama's with people trying to find each other with limited reference and technology that wasn't great given we were underground!

We arrived in London quite early with time to look around and admire the architecture before getting a taxi to the theatre,  It took a while, me never having been to London and toomerrymaiden not having been for a few years, for us to find the restaurant but in truth it would have been a whole lot easier if I hadn't forgotten about the map I had in my pocket ;-)  We finally found the place and sat waiting for small hobbit who we'd never met before and someone I'd met once before and hoped I would recognise or she would recognise me.  We all found each other though and we made a new friend who joined us for dinner and was really lovely.  There were a big group of tumblr peeps who'd met up somewhere else I think and come for dinner and there were two other women who in the end it turned out were the other people we were meeting so somehow without knowing who people were to being with we managed to share a lovely dinner and a lot of laughs and it was lovely :-)

I was sad to have to leave so quickly afterward the Q&A as I wasn't able to squee the evening away but more so because one of the people I really wanted to meet could only meet afterwards and therefore I only got to say Hi but at least I know what they look like when I'm typing away to them now :-)

The train was on time, we got a seat and picking the kids up was achieved on time, the car trip from there wasn't bad so we were home by just after 1am, the day couldn't really have gone any better.  I think I've decided that I was equally excited about meeting fandom peeps as seeing the Q&A and that one without the other would have been a disappointment whichever one had been missing!
(the only names I've out in here are those who said I could, I'd love to put the others in but only if I get permission to ;-) )
